Per Mertesacker and Arsène Wenger take part in hilarious Q&A

Per Mertesacker and Arsène Wenger have become the latest participants in the ‘Rapid Fire’ Q&A run by Emirates.

Whilst the Q&A has become a regular fixture on the Arsenal media channels, it is usually reserved for players, so fans were in for a surprise as this time club captain Per Mertesacker was joined by manager Arsène Wenger.

The session started out with a pretty standard question and answer, with Wenger telling Per that the most skilled player he has worked with was Dennis Bergkamp. But it quickly took a turn for the unusual, as Per stated that his favourite pet animal was a guinea pig, which Arsène seemed more than a little surprised by.

The standard questions used in the feature didn’t always work quite as well with the boss taking part, with Per bursting into laughter when Arsène was given one of the classics to ask him: “In thirty years’ time, who will look better, you or me?”

Another strange answer from Per came when he was asked what gift he would give to the boss, and he responded that he would give a “little World Cup” since he won the World Cup after joining the Gunners, to which Arsène gave a rather insincere “oh, thank you very much”.

The questions finally came back around to Arsenal and Per said that the one player he wouldn’t want to fight was Sead Kolašinac, which will be no surprise to Gunners fans who have been watching the new signing in pre-season. Sead has been nicknamed ‘The Tank’ for his fantastic strength on the ball, and the players have been surprised by his commitment working in the gym.

Back in the Q&A, Per and the boss also talked about the German’s debut for the club, which he said he was a 10 out of 10 for nerves. Wenger quipped that he thought the FA Cup final against Chelsea was also a 10, but Per responded: “No, that was different. I think I was on two there. Yeah, because I haven’t played for a long time and no one expected a lot from me.”

It’s certainly true that the German surprised a lot of people with his performance, and hopefully he can continue to do the same in the coming season.
