Santi Cazorla has admitted he’d be open to a move to the MLS before he reaches the end of his playing career.

Still playing in one of Europe’s top-five leagues at 34 despite having to overcome potentially-career-ending injuries, Cazorla has made a great start to the new season.

The midfielder has scored four goals and assisted four in 12 matches, pushing Villarreal up to eighth in the league after they only narrowly avoided relegation last year.

All the same, the Spanish club have been unwilling to commit to long-term contracts for the player, handing him a one-year deal last year and a one-year extension this summer. As a result, Cazorla could leave for free at the end of the season and the former Gunner admits he could be tempted to move to the United States.

“I love the United States, it is a fantastic place,” Cazorla said (via Football-Espana). “I know people have mentioned me potentially moving there. It would certainly be something I would consider.”

Since the MLS season works on a calendar-year basis, it’s fairly common for their clubs to make their big signings in January. It seems unlikely Cazorla will consider a move in the middle of this season though.

The 34-year-old has a fair chance to make it into the Spain squad for the European Championships next summer, a competition he has already won twice in the past. He certainly won’t help his chances of being selected by moving to America.

After next summer, though, perhaps the switch could be on the cards.
