New UUP MLA delivers as expected
-
Ex PSNI superintendent, Jon Burrows, who has joined the UUP as an unelected MLA, has wasted no time getting stuck into attacking trans people and our healthcare. Jumping on the News Letter’s own personal bandwagon (10 days in a row crying about funding for the gender clinic), Burrows used his first day in the job to ask if the clinic will do crazy shit like ‘affirm’ trans people. You can see his quotes in full in THE PAPERS section below, with the News Letter reporting Burrows, “said he would support someone dealing with gender dysphoria who needs “specialist counselling”, but said that is “entirely different from affirming someone’s gender”.
It is likely he will move for the leadership of the UUP sooner rather than later, planning to build his political career by standing on the necks of the most vulnerable.

Mail angry that Farage won’t pledge to ban all trans women from women’s jails
-
Nigel Farage declined to commit to a blanket ban on trans women in female prisons, backing his new justice adviser Vanessa Frake’s call for individual risk assessments, which is how it is done in Northern Ireland, where there is currently a grand total of zero trans prisoners. Frake, a former prison governor, said trans inmates she oversaw were accepted by other prisoners and argued against blanket exclusions. Farage described the issue as “relatively small” compared with wider prison problems. Reform UK, however, stressed her stance was not party policy while Kemi Badenoch, who recently said she no longer identifies as Nigerian, accused Farage of betraying women’s safety. She did not make this claim when it was revealed a Reform MP had served jail time for assaulting his ex.
The Mail note in their article, “Labour has continued with the Tories’ policy of not housing trans women inmates convicted of violent or sexual crimes in women’s prisons.” You can see the full article below in THE PAPERS.
JK Rowling has since appeared to suggest that Farage is ‘woke’.
News Letter increase anti-trans coverage
-
The News Letter had 17 articles attacking trans people in their print edition last week (28 July – 3 August), including two front pages. That was just two fewer than the Mail (4), Times (8) and Telegraph (7) combined (19). This is even more impressive when you realise that there were only six News Letter editions compared to 21 editions of the other papers, as the News Letter does not publish on a Sunday. They have followed this up with another five in the first three days of this week, which is more than the Times (2) and Mail (2) combined.
They were all written by David Thompson, ‘political editor’, and Adam Kula, both of whom keep an incredibly low profile online. Please do take this as a challenge.
